Caterwauling Kitty Writing Contest 2004 - Third Place - “The Barn Cat”

This was the first time in my life that I was unemployed and a stay at home mom, and it was during this time that I decided to focus on my creative writing as a serious possibility. This contest was the very first one I ever entered, and submitted a short story I had written specifically for this subject, loosely based on one of my own cats and their antics. Imagine my surprise when I received notice that I had won third place with The Barn Cat! It was this win early in my creative process that really lit the fire under this budding writer that let me know I really could write and had some talent to tell an entertaining story.
